🍥 Introduction
Great news for Muslim travelers visiting Japan — a brand new cultural facility has opened in Tokyo’s Asakusa district!Introducing the “BUB ACTIVITY CENTER Asakusa”, a place where you can enjoy authentic Japanese cultural experiences easily, all under one roof.
It’s the kind of place that should’ve existed sooner — exciting, immersive, and thoughtfully designed to be Muslim-friendly. 🌸
This time, I (ai-chan!) was invited by the facility to try out some of their activities. Here's my honest report based on that experience!
📍Location

The facility is located in the heart of Asakusa, one of Tokyo’s most iconic cultural neighborhoods.
It’s on the 5th floor of a building, so you’ll take an elevator up.

As soon as the doors open, you’re welcomed into a spacious, clean, and calming space.
Like in traditional Japanese homes, you'll be asked to remove your shoes before entering.
⭐️ What You Can Experience Here
≪From Traditional to Modern — Dive Into Japanese Culture≫
At BUB ACTIVITY CENTER Asakusa, you can explore a wide range of Japanese cultural activities. From traditional experiences like the tea ceremony and samurai-style archery, to modern pop culture fun like manga and charaben (character bento) making — it’s all here in one place!
Whether you’re into ancient traditions or modern trends, you're sure to create unforgettable memories during your Japan trip. 🇯🇵✨

✒ My Report
Out of all the amazing experiences available, here are the three I tried during my visit:
① Ramen Making 🍜
② Japanese Tea Ceremony 🍵
③ Rice Candy Making 🌾🍬
Let’s go through them one by one!
① Ramen Making 🍜(Halal/vegan support available)
From rolling and boiling the noodles, to preparing the broth and plating the dish — I got to try every step!
All the ingredients used are halal-certified or carefully selected to be halal, so Muslim visitors can fully enjoy the experience with peace of mind. 🕌✔

Ramen is definitely one of the must-try dishes when visiting Japan —but it’s pretty rare to find a place where you can actually make it yourself!

② Japanese Tea Ceremony 🍵
Next up was the Japanese tea ceremony experience. Many people love matcha, but this time, we had the chance to learn how it’s traditionally prepared and enjoyed in Japan — a beautiful ritual passed down for centuries.
We started by making “nerikiri,” a type of delicate Japanese sweet often served with tea.Nerikiri is made from sweetened bean paste (anko) and crafted into seasonal shapes.
Once you’ve shaped your sweet, you get to color it however you like — adding a personal touch before it’s complete!

Next, we sat down with our instructor to enjoy a bowl of matcha while learning the traditional etiquette of the tea ceremony. While there are many customs and formalities in the tea ceremony, even most Japanese people aren’t familiar with all of them!

But don’t worry — it’s not strict or difficult. We simply relaxed and enjoyed the tea while gaining a deeper appreciation for Japanese culture. 🍵
③ Rice Candy Making 🌾🍬
Have you ever heard of “kome-ame” (rice candy)?Even many Japanese people aren’t familiar with it — and I had never heard of it either!
According to the instructor, kome-ame is a traditional Japanese sweet that existed long before sugar was introduced to Japan. We followed a method taught by Yokoi Shoten, a famous rice candy maker from the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture.
We began by boiling rice and barley together. Then, we strained the mixture and heated the liquid again to create a sweet, syrup-like rice candy.

While it’s tasty on its own, we went one step further and made ice cream by mixing the kome-ame with coconut milk!

The result? A naturally sweet and refreshing treat — absolutely delicious!
